Автомат-16 (СМА-4ФБ)
A Russian automatic machine with a single programmer knob for 16 programmes and three keys. The programme is chosen with the knob pushed in and started by pulling the knob out towards you; during operation the knob turns by itself to zero.

Stops by itself and drains
How to start
- Knob Programmer to 6 (clockwise only).
- Buttons E, Eco (economy), No spin released.
- Drawer: B (centre): main wash (about 110 g of powder); bleach can be added here together with the powder (text) — Low-foaming powder, about 110 g.
- Close the door until it clicks.
Durable running fabrics, medium soiling. 5 rinses, spin.
4. Detergent drawer
Front view, left to right. Highlighted compartments are the ones the machine takes detergent from on this programme.
The dispenser hopper slides out towards you. The trays must be dry before powder is put in. Special-treatment product is poured in as a solution; do not push the hopper in sharply when fitting it: the solution may spill. Use low-foaming powder. After washing, rinse the hopper under running water and wipe it.
Tap a row to set that programme on the panel.

- Button E — Key E: energy-saving mode, heating of the wash liquid is limited to 60 °C. On machines with an economy tub it is switched on for programme 5.
- Button Eco — Economy wash mode: use when the load is 60% of nominal or less. About a third less powder can be used.
- Button No spin — Cancels the spin operation. Buttons may be fitted on the panel instead of keys.
- Programme knob Programmer — A single knob-disc for 16 programmes and zero. To choose: with the knob pushed in, turn it clockwise so that the number lines up with the pointer. Start: pull the knob towards you until it clicks. Stop: push the knob in. During the cycle the disc turns clockwise to zero.
- Lamp — "Heating" indicator: lit while the heater is working.
- Lamp — "Mains" indicator: the machine is on.
The indicator does not light and no water is taken in
- The loading hatch is not closed.
- There is no mains voltage: switch the machine off until it returns.
Manual, p. разд. 10, табл. 5
No water enters the tub
- There is no water in the supply: switch the machine off until water returns.
- The tap or valve is closed.
- The inlet hose is kinked.
- The solenoid valve screen is blocked: remove the hose, take out and clean the screen.
Manual, p. разд. 10, табл. 5
The pump drains the water weakly
- The drain hose is kinked: straighten it.
Manual, p. разд. 10, табл. 5
Weak spin, laundry is very damp after the spin
- The drain hose is kinked: remove the cause.
Manual, p. разд. 10, табл. 5
Increased vibration during spin
- The machine is not set stable: level it with the feet.
- A load of less than 1.5 kg is not recommended on the spin programme.

Wipe the body and rubber parts with a soft damp cloth without petrol or solvents, leave the hatch slightly open, switch the machine off by pushing in the knob, pull the plug and close the taps.
After washing pull the hopper out towards you, rinse it under running water, wipe it dry and push it in as far as it goes.
Place a tray underneath, unscrew the filter cap by 2-3 turns and pull the filter towards you (the remaining water may run out), clean the holes, rinse under running water and put it back. If instead of an unscrewing filter there is a lower plastic panel: remove it, detach the hose, take out the plug, drain the water, unscrew the filter cap anticlockwise; do not forget to put the plug back.
Before the first wash, clean the machine: 40 g of powder in the centre tray and a delicate wash without laundry on programme 13. Store at a temperature not below 5 °C and protect from impacts.
Where the data comes from
- Operating manual for the "Vyatka-avtomat-16" washing machine (manual text, elremont.ru), p. разделы 1-10, табл. 4-5 (manual archive)
Assumptions
- No separate user manual for the "Vyatka-avtomat-12" was found online (only repair articles), so the "Vyatka-avtomat-16" (SMA-4FB) is documented. The programmer design is similar, but their programme tables differ.
- The source is an HTML copy of the manual without page numbers, so sourcePage holds section and table numbers.
- Position "0" is taken at the pointer, positions 1-16 run clockwise with an equal step; angles are nominal, the labels on the disc are not shown in the manual. In operation the disc turns clockwise to zero, so the path between programmes in cycle.steps is modelled as a separate block for each starting position (steps with the same pos).
- The cycle.steps durations are estimated: the manual gives no programme times (except "final spin at least 2.5 min"). The prewash temperature is taken from the table (40 °C, 20-30 °C for programme 11).
- The water volume of 25 l is estimated; the heater power is not given in the manual.
- Load per table 4: for durable fabrics 4 and 2.5 kg are given, for delicate ones 2.5 and 1.5. The second figure is assumed to be the load with the eco mode on (60% of nominal, as stated in cl. 6). loadKg holds the first figure.
- The spin speed of 500 rpm is taken from the example designation of the machine (VA160500); other versions may differ.
- The panel colours (light) and the colours of the "Heating" and "Mains" indicators are not stated in the text; they are taken as nominal.
- Key labels: for the eco-mode key and the "no spin" key the manual shows only pictograms; text labels are used on the panel.
Not in the manual
- No programme times, water volume, heater power or exact angles on the disc.
- The order of positions on the disc itself between programmes is not described; for 1 and 2 the table gives the same cycle description.
- No photo of the panel; the colour and look of the knob are not confirmed.
- The economy tub mode (fig. 2) and models without hot water are described only in general terms.
Time is an estimate from the timer steps and heater power: heating 25 l of water from 15 °C to the selected temperature with a 2000 W (not stated in the manual, typical value used) heater. Real time depends on tap water temperature, load and mains voltage.
